Products for Rosacea - What to Look For - and Avoid

!±8± Products for Rosacea - What to Look For - and Avoid

To help prevent or lessen the redness during a rosacea flare-up, there are many products for rosacea sufferers. Rosacea is not a harmful ailment, but it is a condition that causes bright red patches in the T-zone of the face (forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin.) Most cases of rosacea are triggered by something a person eats or drinks, usually spicy foods or alcohol.

Rosacea has no cure, therefore those diagnosed with the skin condition must use specially designed products for rosacea. Common cosmetics, skin creams, and other facial products can irritate or even damage the skin. Alcohol and perfumes are horrible choices and will make the rosacea worse rather than improve it.

When choosing a facial cleanser, it is important to look for hypo-allergenic, perfume-free products. Many doctors recommend Cetaphil, but I've had great luck with the Proactiv® line and with Noxema's Triple Clean Anti-Bacterial cleaner. Cetaphil is generally expensive, costing over for a pack of six bars. Proactiv® is another expensive cleaning system costing around for the starter kit. Noxema has worked for me and costs a tube. My rosacea is mild though, so it may not work for someone with a more severe case of rosacea.

Toners often contain alcohol and should not be used by rosacea patients. Instead, use a mild moisturizer that is perfume-free. Moisturizers should contain sunscreen. Aveeno's Ultra Calming has done wonders for my skin. It contains sunscreen (SPF15) that cover both UVA and UVB rays. It is completely oil-free and hypo-allergenic. Again, some people with more severe cases of rosacea say they have problems with some of the natural ingredients found in Aveeno products, so do not invest in larger containers until you know it will work for you.

Make-up is a bigger issue. Many commercial companies use talc or chemicals in their make-up that irritate rosacea. Instead, try all-natural products like Bare Minerals or those found in your area organic/health store. They cover well and do not irritate the skin.

While it can seem hard to find suitable products for rosacea, with some trial and error, you will find products that prevent flare-ups and leave you feeling great!

Your Best Bets - Moisturizers on the Market

!±8± Your Best Bets - Moisturizers on the Market

With so many skin care products on the market, choosing the perfect skin moisturizer for you can be a little tricky. You may opt to experiment first before picking out the best moisturizer, and may spend a lot of dollars for that. So here is a rundown on moisturizers on the market for every skin type-with prices ranging for as low as to as steep as 0-that are recommended by make-up artists, dermatologists and editors of beauty magazines.

Let's start with the moisturizers found in drugstore beauty aisles. For as low as .50, you can have for your own a Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream, a non-greasy, fragrance-free moisturizer for areas on your body that require intensive moisturizing-such as elbows, hands, knees and feet-but also mild for facial use. Another great drugstore find is dermatologist-recommended Eucerin® Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30. For only under .00, this 2-in-1 non-greasy moisturizer combines intensive moisturizing needed by your face and SPF 30 for protection from harmful UVA and UVB sun rays.

People with a dry skin type have no qualms in finding their ideal moisturizer: there are many to choose from. But don't forget to try Chanel's Hydramax + Active® Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin. Its fragrant formula combines the moisturizing benefits of Shea Butter with Rosemary liposomes which promote the synthesis of lipids within the skin. This strengthens the skin's defenses against loss of moisture, so the skin becomes softer and suppler. Though its .00 tag is at the pricey end, it is all worth it for that soft skin and even skin tone you want to have.

People with oily and combination skins, however, find it difficult to look for a moisturizer that retains just the right amount of moisture on their skin without clogging their pores and making their skin oilier. Good thing Clinique offers the oil-free Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel® with Pump. This .00 moisturizer also contains antioxidants that fight premature aging, and has a lightweight, silky feel that leaves your skin smooth and matte for hours.

For those with sensitive skin, you should try Aveeno® Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15. With a price of about .00, you can experience the clinically-proven soothing and calming effects it has on sensitive skin. An oil-free hypoallergenic formula, it also reduces redness of skin in as little as one week and provides UVA/UVB protection a sensitive skin needs.

If you are willing to spend big for the ultimate moisturizer, then try the cream that has inspired a cult following: Creme de la Mer® by Estee Lauder. At the astounding price of 0.00 per ounce, it uses fermented sea kelp-which are rich in nutrients like calcium, magnesium and potassium-and lime extracts loaded with antioxidants as its main ingredients. A favorite of celebrities like Christina Applegate and Jennifer Lopez, it is also one of the most sought-after anti-aging creams because of its ability to smooth out fine lines.

Though there are an awful lot of moisturizers to choose from, ultimately, you have to get the one that make your skin soft, smooth and well-nourished. Keep in mind that the cost of the beauty product has got nothing to do with its effectiveness, and that there is no guarantee that it will live up to all its claims, so choose the ideal one for you and get the most out of it.
